A more secure future

Atake Atchelouwe had ambitions beyond simply earning enough to get by. Like many mothers, she wanted to provide for her children and give them opportunities for a better future. But making ends meet was a constant struggle, and she knew something needed to change.

In 2024, Atake travelled from her home in Lomé, Togo, to Abidjan in neighbouring Ivory Coast to learn the craft of handbag making. A year later, she returned home and launched Nova Fashion, her own brand of high-end designer handbags.

Nova Fashion

Atake wasn't interested in simply producing everyday accessories. She wanted to create something distinctive, combining craftsmanship and design to appeal to customers who appreciate quality and style. In doing so, she began building a business around her own creativity and ambitions.

The change in her family's circumstances has been significant. Where she once struggled to provide for her children, the income from Nova Fashion has given her greater financial independence and a more secure foundation for their future.

As a member of the CAF BOUWEDEOU 2 collective, Atake received her first loan of 80,000 FCFA (approx £102GBP) through IADES in 2026. She repaid it in full and on schedule and has since taken out a second loan to support her growing business.

More than fashion

Atake's story is one of personal initiative. She recognised an opportunity, invested in learning a new skill and created a business of her own. Nova Fashion is still young, but it has already changed what she can provide for her family and what she can imagine for herself.
